The Ice Palace

24 Nov 2013

The more that you read, the more things you will know.
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.

Keys Meadow proudly uses the Power of Reading scheme throughout the school and across the curriculum. Every half term, the children will explore and analyse a key text, helping them to become confident readers who value key literacy skills.

This half term, year three are reading Ice Palace by Robert Swindells. You may wish to start some discussions with your child about the book, and so we thought that we would write a brief overview of the story. If you want the details, you'll have to ask your child!

Ivan is a small boy who lives in a small village near a forest. In the winter, all of the villagers become very scared because the cruel and wicked Starjik visits in the night and takes away children. When Ivan's brother is taken, he decides that he will travel to Starjik's land and rescue his brother. The journey is long, cold and very dangerous. On his quest he is chased by wolves and tricked by Starjik. When he finally arrives at the Ice Palace, he has to face Starjik and try and melt the winter in his heart...
